Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Product Range
The selection of the right pressure sensitive adhesive requires the right balance of adhesion performance and processing requirements. Initial tack, peel strength, holding power and melt viscosity are all factors to consider for hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives when deciding if an adhesive will work for your production.
Key Factors When Evaluating Pressure Sensitive Adhesives
Adhesion Performance
Test initial tack, peel adhesion and holding power for your bonding needs.
Processing Compatibility
Consider melt viscosity, application temperature and coating conditions to make sure it is compatible with your production process.
Substrate Wetting
Assess how well the adhesive contacts the bonding surfaces, as substrate characteristics can influence adhesion results.
Technical Specifications
Review documented performance data, test methods and processing recommendations before approving a product.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Performance
An adhesive’s performance cannot be limited to a single parameter; therefore, the balance of adhesion, cohesive strength and processing characteristics is a factor to consider when buying. The performance data below is for our hotmelt PSA series and is presented on the basis of standard lab conditions of 23±2°C / 50±5% RH.
Initial tack is how easily an adhesive will stick to a surface. It allows buyers to assess the rate of initial bonding of the adhesive under certain conditions. A high initial tack value does not mean that the product will perform well in general; the initial tack value must be taken into account with the peel adhesion and holding power.
Peel Adhesion is the strength needed to pull apart bonded materials under specific test conditions. Our grades provide 5-20 N/25mm peel on stainless steel for standard applications and greater than 25 N/25mm for high performance grades with coating weights of 18-25 g/m² measured by 180° peel on stainless steel. The use of different substrates, adhesive layers and contact times, as well as different testing techniques, can influence the result; when comparing products, ensure that the test technique and conditions are similar.
Shear performance measures the ability of an adhesive to withstand a prolonged force. It gives details on the adhesive’s retention properties under specific conditions – in static shear testing our standard grades last for over 1,000 minutes whilst high-cohesion grades last for more than 10,000 minutes. When choosing the right product for your needs, you need to balance the tack, peel adhesion and shear performance.
Melt viscosity refers to the viscosity of an adhesive at a given temperature. It is a significant factor to consider for hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives and for assessing coating behaviour and compatibility with existing processing equipment. Melt viscosity ranges from 2,500 to 50,000 mPa·s at 170°C, with most coating grades between 5,000 and 15,000 mPa·s. Always check the viscosity values in conjunction with the test method and the temperature at which the viscosity was measured.
Applying the adhesive at the recommended temperature is important because it can affect the suitability of the adhesive for the process to be used. Depending on the formulation and equipment, our HMPSA windows are from 150°C to 190°C. Prior to changing adhesive grades, consult the appropriate processing recommendations and test for suitability.
Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Applications
There are various applications where hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives are used in bonding and coating. The suitability of the application varies with the adhesive formulation, the properties of the substrate and the production needs.
01
Sponge & Nonwoven Fabric Lamination
The hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives are designed to bond compatible sponge and nonwoven materials and the performance and process parameters of the adhesive are coordinated with the lamination process.
02
Label Coating
Label coating uses pressure sensitive adhesives to help the label adhere under pressure. The requirements for adhesion of labels will vary based on the type of label material, substrate, and conditions.
03
Protective Films
HMPSAs are suitable for use in protective film products which need controlled adhesion and removal properties. A formulation should be tailored to the film and surface to be treated.
04
General Industrial Bonding
Specific HMPSA formulations can be used to assist in various industrial bonding applications of compatible materials, under appropriate adhesion performance and processing requirements.
