Book binding glue spine is used as a glue to attach the spine of a prepared book block in the bookbinding procedure. It is more than just about price comparison when choosing a suitable product. The adhesive must adhere to the paper materials, equipment and production environment in your production plant.

This book binding glue spine has good flow characteristics, high initial bonding strength and high internal cohesion. As a reference for suitability for a specific production line, its open time, setting time and viscosity are important factors.

Several factors can affect the final bonding result:

  • Paper characteristics:Adhesive compatibility can be affected by paper weight, printing ink, surface treatment and coating.
  • Spine preparation:The state of the book block’s spine is important for handing contact to the paper edges.
  • Application conditions:The adhesion performance is affected by temperature, amount of adhesive and consistency of the adhesive coating.
  • Production speed: Open time and behavior must be matched with the binder.

If you intend to replace your current bookbinding glue, or if you are experiencing issues such as edge lifting, unrolling, or stringing during use, please provide the specifications and processing parameters of the adhesive you are currently using. Our technical team will evaluate your requirements and determine whether the adhesive is suitable for further testing.

Book Binding Glue Spine Technical Specifications

Technical specifications help purchasing teams compare adhesive products and determine whether a product should be evaluated on their production equipment. The following table summarizes the available technical data.

Technical Parameter Specification
Base Composition EVA and Resin
Appearance Light Yellow Solid
Product Form Granules
Open Time 10–15 seconds
Setting Time 5–8 seconds
Viscosity 3,000 ± 500 cP at 160°C
Softening Point 70 ± 5°C, Ring-and-Ball Method
Recommended Application Temperature 160–180°C
Standard Packaging 25 kg per bag
Recommended Storage Temperature 5–35°C

The recommended application temperature provides a starting reference for production evaluation. Actual operating conditions should be confirmed against the equipment, paper substrate and application process. The specified setting time should not automatically be interpreted as complete curing time under every production condition.

Applications of Book Binding Glue Spine

This book binding glue spine is designed to ensure excellent spine adhesion and stable application performance. Product specifications indicate that it is suitable for substrates including printed paper, varnished paper, and paper laminated with OPP film on both sides.

Printed Paper

The most frequently used printed paper is book paper, educational paper, manual paper etc. When determining the compatibility of adhesive, paper characteristics, printing ink and spine preparation are all important factors to look at.

Varnished Paper

The varnished surface may interact with the adhesive and the adhesion to the substrate may be altered. Prior to final confirmation for regular production, testing with the actual surface and paper is recommended.

Double-Sided OPP-Laminated Paper

The processes for lamination may differ from those used for uncoated paper. It is suitable for the product data, but compatibility should be checked with the laminate construction and the manufacturing process of the laminate.

Different Paper Weights

The appropriate adhesive should be evaluated against the paper materials and finished book requirements. Paper weight alone does not determine bonding performance, so substrate construction and spine preparation should also be considered.

If you use a particular paper coating or laminate, provide details of the material so our team can help assess whether sample testing is appropriate.

Recommended Processing Conditions and Machine Compatibility

The optimal application temperature for this book binding glue spine adhesive is 160-180°C. Processing conditions are important to ensure the adhesive flows and is applied as desired, but should be confirmed on the intended machine.

Application Temperature

Assess around the recommended temperature range. Application behavior can be influenced by machine configuration, temperature control and operating conditions.

Viscosity and Glue Application

The viscosity is specified as 3,000 ± 500 cP at 160°C, which should impact the flow of the adhesive through the application system and the resulting coating on the book spine. Verify that the application behaviour is appropriate for your machine and production process.

Open Time and Setting Time

The open time is 10-15 seconds and setting time is 5-8 seconds. The following values are useful for the buyer to judge whether or not the timing properties of the adhesive are compatible with the production process. Actual results may vary depending on temperature, paper type, amount and equipment conditions.

Packaging, Storage and Shelf Life

The glue comes in granules and is usually packaged in bags of 25 kg. This information enables the purchasing teams to make estimates of materials quantity, storage and inventory needs.

The recommended storage temperature is 5-35℃. Store the adhesive in a pallet on a first-in, first-out basis, in its original packaging, out of direct sunlight and high humidities. Maintain the right packaging to help prevent environmental contamination of the product.

Under specified storage conditions stated shelf life is 24 months from production date. When stocking an inventory of products, buyers should remember to consider the production dates and storage requirements when arriving and caring for products, especially when buying for continued manufacturing.

When purchasing in bulk quantities, check the packaging, quantity and delivery options before ordering.
